D. Saková in Munich: We want to strengthen cooperation with Bavaria in the energy and automotive sectors
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic Denisa Saková visited Munich on Thursday, May 7, as part of a business delegation accompanying Prime Minister Róbert Fico on his official visit to Bavaria. Minister Saková participated in a plenary meeting with Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder and held bilateral talks with Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs and Deputy Minister President of Bavaria Hubert Aiwanger, focusing on strengthening cooperation in key sectors. A Slovak-Bavarian Business Forum dedicated to mobility and sustainability was also held in Munich, bringing together nearly 30 Slovak companies.
“Bavaria is a key partner for Slovakia, and our talks in Munich confirmed that we have a strong foundation for further growth. I see significant potential, particularly in strengthening links between Slovak and Bavarian companies in the automotive, energy, and defence industries. Our goal is for Slovak companies to play an even greater role in European supply chains and for us to jointly develop innovative solutions for the future of industry,” said Denisa Saková, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic.
Cooperation between Slovakia and Bavaria in the automotive industry has long been close, supported by strong links through German automotive manufacturers and integrated supply chains. A key challenge for both countries is the transition to electromobility, which also presents significant opportunities for cooperation in battery development, component manufacturing, and innovative technological solutions.
A significant part of Minister Saková’s discussions with Bavarian Deputy Minister-President and Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger focused on energy issues, particularly grid stability, energy storage, hydrogen technologies, and the integration of nuclear and renewable energy sources.
In the defence sector, promising areas for cooperation include joint research and development in autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, as well as the establishment of joint innovation and development centres linking research with industrial applications.
The programme of the official visit also included the Slovak-Bavarian Business Forum. The Slovak business delegation, consisting of nearly 30 companies, discussed the future of the automotive industry in the context of electromobility, digitalisation, and sustainability, as well as opportunities to become more closely integrated into Bavarian supply chains.
The discussions in Munich reaffirmed Bavaria’s importance as one of Slovakia’s key trading partners and further strengthened the foundation for concrete joint projects in the period ahead.
