D. Saková: Investment Heading to the Upper Nitra Region – Transforming Regions Affected by Industrial Decline is Our Priority

An investment is being directed to the town of Nováky, representing an important step in the economic transformation of the Upper Nitra region. On Wednesday, 2 July 2025, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Economy (MH SR), the provision of investment aid in the amount of €500,000 for Intermodal Technologies, a.s. The investment will support the creation of new jobs and contribute to the efficient use of existing industrial infrastructure, thereby fostering regional development and improving the quality of life of local residents.

“Transforming regions that have gone through industrial decline is a priority for us. I am pleased that we are succeeding in bringing concrete solutions and real investments with high added value and meaningful social impact. The project in Nováky is an example of how modern industry can make use of existing capacities while creating attractive jobs for local residents,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Saková.

For Intermodal Technologies, a.s.—a subsidiary of TATRAVAGÓNKA, a.s., one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of freight railway wagons and bogies—investment aid was approved exclusively in the form of income tax relief amounting to €500,000. This support is intended for the establishment of a new production facility in the town of Nováky, focused on the production of containers and swap bodies for intermodal transport. These are key for modern transport systems that connect rail, road, maritime, and air transport.

The new production facility will make use of existing buildings and infrastructure of Hornonitrianske bane Prievidza (Upper Nitra Mines), ensuring efficient utilization of available resources. The company plans to create at least 270 new jobs with an average wage of €1,779.8, significantly above the average for the Prievidza district.

Production will be oriented primarily toward exports within the EU and will employ modern technologies, including industrial robots and artificial intelligence devices. This investment represents an example of sustainable industrial development with high added value, contributing to strengthening the regional economy and improving the living conditions of residents of the Upper Nitra region.
