D. Saková: Nuclear energy and source diversification must be part of the solutions for energy security and the green transition.

On Friday, June 6, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Saková, held talks in Paris with Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), which plays a key role in energy expertise, analysis, and strategic recommendations. Their discussion focused primarily on energy security in Slovakia and the European Union. In this context, they emphasized the importance of nuclear energy as a stable and zero-emission energy source.

“I greatly appreciate the recognition of Slovakia’s approach to nuclear energy, especially from IEA Executive Director Mr. Birol. We agreed that nuclear energy and source diversification must become integral parts of the response to challenges in energy security, the green transition, and boosting Europe’s competitiveness. Nuclear power offers stable energy supply, emission reduction, and greater energy independence,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of the Slovak Republic, Denisa Saková, after the meeting.

The talks also covered preparations for building a new state-owned nuclear power source, a project Slovakia is currently working on. In this context, Minister Saková praised the invaluable role of the IEA in promoting international cooperation and shaping responsible energy policy—especially at a time when the need for reliable and sustainable solutions is growing. At the end of the meeting, Minister Saková invited Fatih Birol to the European Nuclear Energy Forum (ENEF), which will take place in Slovakia in 2025.

The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic will continue to be active and support initiatives that combine climate responsibility with energy realities.
