D. Saková: Slovakia is not at risk in terms of oil supplies; we expect supplies to resume soon
The state-owned company Transpetrol, which operates under the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic (MoE SR), has reported a suspension of oil supplies to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline outside the territory of the Slovak Republic. The reason is damage to a transformer station. This is the second damage to the Druzhba pipeline infrastructure in Russia in the last seven days.
“Of course, we are monitoring the situation closely together with our partners. According to our information, work is underway to repair the technical fault. However, I would like to reassure citizens that the security of supply to the region is not threatened by this, deliveries to Slovakia have so far been fulfilled according to schedule, and we expect them to resume after the fault is repaired in the coming days,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková.
Once work on the transformer station has been completed, oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline will be resumed. MoE SR assures that Slovakia is sufficiently prepared for any longer-term outages, as it has strategic reserves of oil and oil products. In addition, the ministry is taking steps to diversify raw material supplies, including the development of alternative routes and the use of storage facilities.
“Slovakia’s energy security is our priority. This situation also shows how important it is to continue the strategic modernization and strengthening of our energy infrastructure,” added D. Saková.
