State Secretaries of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic engaged in talks held with the former Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta

State Secretaries of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic Kamil Šaško and Vladimír Šimoňák engaged in talks held with the President of Jacques Delors Institute and the former Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta that were organized on Tuesday 5 March 2024 at the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic. Joint talks were led by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Robert Fico and they dealt with reviewing major challenges of the European Union Single Market while focusing on experiences and conditions of the Slovak economy.

Having been entrusted by the Spanish and Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Enrico Letta is currently elaborating an independent report on the future of the European Union Single Market, which will deal with outlining its development in the future. Elaborating the report involves consultations held with the representatives of governments of the European Union Member States as well as with professional, academic and interest groups. In the coming weeks, the report will be introduced to the representatives of the European Union Member States and will be, subsequently, debated at the European Council meeting to take place in April, which will deal with issues relating to Single Market and Economy.

Slovakia is an open and export-oriented economy with the automotive industry being the most significant sector and for which the crucial role plays the European Union Single Market. Over time, the European Union Single Market has become the largest and the most integrated market in the world encompassing more than 440 million citizens.
