The competition for a financial advisor for the construction of a new nuclear power source has begun.

On Tuesday, 3 June 2025, the state-owned Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS), a.s., launched a competition for a financial advisor for the planned construction of a new nuclear power source in Jaslovské Bohunice. The goal is to provide the state with expert support in preparing and concluding contractual agreements between the Slovak Republic and the future investor.

“I am pleased that preparations for the new nuclear power source are moving forward. For Slovakia, it is extremely important to ensure affordable and stable electricity supplies for households and industry, and the new nuclear source will be key in this regard. We expect the winner of this competition to help Slovakia choose the best financial model for this investment,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková.

To ensure maximum transparency, the competition has also been published in the European journal. The application period is set at 45 days, which exceeds the legal requirement. The process will take place in two rounds. First, the professional qualifications of the bidders will be verified, and only companies that demonstrate the necessary experience will be invited to submit their price offers. The estimated contract value is set at 15 million euros, with the final price to be determined by the outcome of the competition.

Based on a government decision, the Slovak Ministry of Economy is preparing the construction of a new large nuclear power source in Jaslovské Bohunice. The planned facility will have a maximum output of up to 1,700 MW and a minimum lifespan of 60 years. Its role will be to help ensure sufficient electricity supplies for households and industry in Slovakia in the future.
