The residents of Humenné continue to have heating and hot water. The state has taken care of them

Since Friday evening (28 March 2025), the state company MH Teplárenský Holding, under the remit of the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic, has been providing heat and hot water to more than 30 thousand people in the city of Humenné. Following several years of disputes between the town and its private heat supplier, the Ministry of Economy decided to build three separate heat facilities to serve as a backup solution for Humenné. This reduced the risk of an emergency situation which, for many years, had threatened the town and its inhabitants in the event of an interruption to the supply of heat and hot water from a private company. The Ministry of Economy's assumptions proved to be justified. Last autumn (2024), the private company CHEMES went bankrupt. A month ago, the bankruptcy trustee notified the Ministry of Economy that the owner of the energy facilities had terminated the lease.

"I inherited a critical situation in Humenné. Thanks to the measures I submitted to the government for approval, and to the timely installation of backup boilers in Humenné by the state-owned heating company, people in the town no longer have to worry about their heating and hot water supplies," said Denisa Saková, Slovakia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy.
