The Slovak government has ensured that gas and heat prices for Slovak households will not rise in 2025

At its meeting on Friday, 13 December 2024, the Government of the Slovak Republic unanimously approved a series of measures that guarantee gas and heat prices will remain unchanged for households, social service homes, boarding schools, and children's homes throughout 2025. These basic energy commodities will be capped at the 2024 price level, preventing the government from implementing a planned increase of almost 30% for gas and 40% for district heating.

„At a time of consolidation, we want to guarantee people a basic standard of living. Ensuring favourable energy prices has been one of the priorities of this government, and we have clearly demonstrated that we will not abandon citizens in difficult times. We have reduced VAT on basic foodstuffs, negotiated reduced electricity prices, and will now ensure households do not pay more for gas and heat, saving them hundreds of euros a year," said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková after the meeting.

Thanks to the adopted measures, the average Slovak household will save up to €360 if they live in a block of flats and use a central heating system, or up to €455 if they live in a detached house and use gas for heating. The total cost to the state budget of stabilising energy prices in 2025 will not exceed the budgeted amount of €235 million. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy is working with the state companies SPP, a.s. and MH Teplárenský Holding, a.s. to minimise the energy compensation claims on the state budget.
