Third hydrogen workshop: Transpositions of directives, analytical document, fire safety, building permits

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic (MoE SR), in cooperation with the Slovak National Hydrogen Association (SNHA), organized the third hydrogen workshop on the topics of transposing the gas market directives, the proposed transposition of RED III, and hydrogen consumption targets for 2030 and 2035 in industry and transport. One of the topics was development of the hydrogen ecosystem in Slovakia.

The workshop also discussed how the gas market directive will be transposed into Slovak legislation and what the proposals are for transposing the third revision of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union Directive on renewable energy (RED III), as well as what their transposition will mean for Slovakia.

The basic outputs of the document Development of the Hydrogen Ecosystem in Slovakia were also presented, together with medium- and long-term production scenarios up to 2050. The aim of the document is to make the RED III targets realistic in the conditions of the Slovak Republic and to provide forecasts and scenarios for the development of the hydrogen ecosystem until 2030, with a vision until 2050.

The workshop also included two moderated discussions. The first discussion focused on issues related to the presented document Development of the Hydrogen Ecosystem in Slovakia. Representatives from the state, public, business and research sectors participated in the discussion. The second discussion focused on issues related to Slovak regulations and standards, fire safety of hydrogen equipment, and the approval process for buildings with hydrogen technologies, which were addressed by representatives of the state administration, the fire brigade and the business sector. The topic also included possible projections for the development of the hydrogen ecosystem after 2030.

The Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak National Hydrogen Association have already jointly organized three workshops on topics related to hydrogen and its ecosystem in Slovakia. They were attended by a total of nearly 180 representatives from the state, public, research, academic and business sectors, with over 120 additional representatives participating online.

These events provided a room for discussion on the current state of the hydrogen ecosystem, as well on the possibilities for developing hydrogen infrastructure, forecasts for the development of the ecosystem and the application of hydrogen technologies in Slovakia.
